Our ultimate vision is a world in which arthropod biodiversity and resilience inspires and challenges knowledge seekers, inventors and creators.

Our goal is to unlock the potential of arthropods as a source of knowledge and inspiration for addressing local and global challenges by building a Community for Arthropod Research, Education, and Materials Innovation (CAREMI) that brings together a diverse group of researchers and creators to generate new arthropod-inspired and use-related knowledge, education, and materials innovation.

CAREMI is a collaborative transdisciplinary research community focused on arthropod-inspired research and innovation.

Consisting of at least 37 researchers and educators from diverse fields (e.g., entomology, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, social science, art), facilitating 14 initial research or engagement projects and resulting in the development of a sustainable research community that will continually innovate projects, breakthroughs and funding sources. This effort will be achieved by placing arthropods at the center of our work, resulting in disruptive breakthroughs useful to complementary fields and disparate areas of research alike.

Ultimately, CAREMI’s ambitious research community will leverage the vast untapped potentials of arthropod biology and biodiversity to develop imaginative, path-paving solutions to challenges in materials science, environmental sustainability, and human health, as well as discoveries in emerging technologies. CAREMI will also increase knowledge of and change attitudes towards arthropods and their influence and impact on humanity and our world.
