Connect with Employers

Employers appreciate connecting with faculty and staff to share information about their organizations and industries. These connections may help faculty and staff arrange:

  • classroom presentations
  • site visits
  • research collaborations

Two of the best ways to connect with industry on campus are through our Industry in Residence program and the UNL Career Fairs.

Share Internships or Jobs

If an industry partner or employer contacts you about filling open positions, please connect them with Engineering Career Services. Our team is glad to promote their opportunities and discuss additional ways they can engage with the College of Engineering and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In order to reach the widest audience possible, encourage employers to post their positions on Handshake.

There are ethical and legal issues to be considered regarding college student recruitment. UNL and the vast majority of employers follow the NACE Principles of Ethical Professional Practice, which are based on fairness, truthfulness, non-injury, confidentiality, and lawfulness. Consult these resources for professional guidelines:

Best Practices for Engaging with Employers
  • Follow FERPA regulations concerning students' rights to privacy (e.g., do not share names or emails with industry partners).
  • If employers connect with you regarding employment opportunities, share the position with Engineering Career Services so we can ensure the position is posted in Handshake so all qualified candidates have an opportunity to apply.
  • Refer employers wanting to engage in recruiting efforts on campus to Engineering Career Services. We will work with the employer to ensure they are following on-campus recruiting policies, help them reserve space, and publicize the event to students.
  • Do not participate in the selection process for interviews or job offers. The Department of Labor may view you as an agent of the company, which could implicate you and the university in lawsuits. Additionally, other employers view this as an unfair hiring practice.
Share Your Students' Successes

Professors and advisors are often the first to hear when a student lands a job. However, after sharing the news with you and their family, students may forget—or not realize—they should also inform us. If you hear about a student hire, please take a moment to email us. Just share any details you have, and we’ll handle the rest!
