Nebraska 4-H

Enroll as a New or Returning Volunteer

Adult helping youth with STEM robotics project.

If you are enrolling in 4-H for the first time, you must contact your local Extension office before beginning the 4-H Online enrollment process.

Returning volunteers need to verify their birthdate is listed correctly on their member profile. If it is not listed correctly, please contact your local Extension office to get this corrected. Without a correct birthdate, the volunteer screening link will not work.

Adults serving as a 4-H Club Project Leader or 4-H Club Organizational Leader must enroll through 4-H Online. Adult leaders who are new to the program need to create a new Family Profile.

Parents/Guardians of currently enrolled 4-H members should use their existing family profile and add themselves as a new "Adult Member".

Steps to Enroll as a New or Returning Volunteer

Step 1: Create a Family Profile

The email address will be used as the user/access id. Enter an email address you use and a password you will remember. There will be an option later in enrollment to add additional email addresses.

Please enter the household "Last Name".

Click Select Volunteer Types to indicate how you are planning to participate in the program throughout the year.

At least one Volunteer Type is required during the enrollment process. You may add additional Volunteer Types later, if needed.

Volunteer Types
Volunteers are able to select from three different volunteer types. Volunteers will need to select more than one to be able to select a club and project.

Club Volunteer Type:
Two Roles:

  • Organizational Leader Role: Will be able to select a club but will not be able to select projects. This Role is intended for the primary Club Leaders. A club may have multiple Volunteers listed in this role.
  • Club Leader Role: Will be able to select a club but will not be able to select projects.

Program Volunteer Type:
County Volunteer Role: Volunteer associated with the County only. Will not be associated with a club or a specific project area.

Project Volunteer Type:
Project Leader Role: Will be able to select project area but will not be able to select a club.

Step 5: Adding a Club and Projects

Select the County, Club and Volunteer type that corresponds with the Club in which you would like to participate.

If you have selected to participate as a Project leader, you will be prompted to select a Project. Click Select Projects.

  • Volunteers should add project that start with “Volunteer: Project Name”. These are found closer to the bottom of the project list.
  • Shooting Sports Leaders MUST select their discipline from the Volunteer Project listing in order to sign the required shooting sports consent form.
  • Horse Project Leaders MUST select “Volunteer: Horse Leader” from the Volunteer Project listing in order to sign the required horse project consent form.

For questions regarding project selection during enrollment, contact your local county office.

Step 6: Consent Form and Code of Conduct

Please sign all consent forms on this page. This includes our Activity Worker Guidelines and our Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Step 7: Confirmation and Submit Enrollment

If all information looks correct, please submit your application. You will then be prompted to move to the next step, which is our screening process.

Please note that until your enrollment has been accepted and all screening pieces complete, you will not be considered an active volunteer.

Volunteers need to click on the button to go to screening to be automatically re-directed to the volunteer screening steps.

Step 8: Volunteer Screening

All Nebraska 4-H volunteers must complete the 4-H Volunteer screening process before volunteering with 4-H in any capacity. Please contact your local Extension office for any questions.

All volunteers serving in a direct service role with Nebraska 4-H are required to complete a criminal history background check. Follow the instructions to complete the volunteer screening steps. Ensure all steps are followed through payment until a confirmation page is reached.

Complete Volunteer Screening

Direct volunteers are those working directly with youth, such as club leaders and workshop facilitators. Direct volunteers will be asked to complete the following screening process and repeat screening as scheduled.

Please note that direct volunteers are responsible for covering a screening fee. Currently, the cost of the screening is $16.00. This fee must be paid at the time of screening and re-screening.

Initial Screening Process = Volunteer Screening Process

Depending on your specific volunteer role and instructions from your county Extension office (see step one above), you may be prompted to complete the initial screening process while enrolling in 4-H Online or you may receive an email invitation from your local Extension Office. Either from the email invitation or re-direct to the screening website, the screening process will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

Re-Screening Process

Volunteer screening is repeated every five years based on the volunteer's anniversary date. When it is time for re-screening, volunteers will be prompted with instructions for completing the online re-screening process.

Complete Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Orientation

All volunteers must complete the Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Orientation in order to complete the enrollment and screening steps. The Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Orientation serves as an introduction to the 4-H Youth Development program in Nebraska. As part of the screening process, the orientation covers a variety of foundational and essential topics. Volunteers are also required to complete the orientation as part of the re-screening process.

Counties can verify when volunteers complete the orientation.
