FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-14 through fun, exciting, hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today's students and teachers build a better future together. Our three division inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and designs skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.
FIRST LEGO League guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. From Discover, to Explore, and then to Challenge, students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while gaining productive learning habits, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.
FIRST does not match youth to existing teams due to our privacy policy. Teams form in local communities and recruit as needed. We encourage those looking for a team to contact local schools, libraries, or youth organizations that may have a team in place or an interest in starting one. An online search may also be helpful, as some teams share contact information through websites and social media pages.
In Nebraska, FIRST LEGO League programs are organized by Nebraska 4-H.
GRADES PreK-1
Discover
For children ages 4-6, this playful introductory program ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning with hands-on activities in the classroom and at home using LEGO DUPLO bricks.
GRADES 2-4
Explore
In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0
GRADES 4-8
Challenge
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-14 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the mission of a robot game.
Game & Season Info
Beneath the ocean's surface lies our planet's most complex exosystems, full of life and potential for exploration and learning, where each inhabitant has a role to play in building a thriving environment. During the 2024-2025 FIRST season, FIRST® DIVE℠ presented by Qualcomm, teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, we'll uncover the potential in each of us to strengthen our community and innovate for a better world with healthy oceans.
In the 2024-2025 SUBMERGED℠ challenge, FIRST® LEGO® League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future.
