Forest Products Utilization in Nebraska

Healthy forests and strong markets are dependent upon active, responsible forest management. Markets for wood and forest products lead to increased timber harvesting and forest management. Active forest management improves the health of Nebraska's tree and forest resources, making forests sustainable over time. A healthy forest products industry and markets reduce the cost of forest management activities. It's a win-win. A circular economy of trees, a natural resource.

And while Nebraska is not a traditional forest products state, there is a long history of timber harvest and wood products.

The primary goal of the Forest Products Utilization program is to facilitate the development of strong, sustainable markets for the state’s tree and forest resources. This is accomplished with staff providing expert technical assistance, developing high-quality information resources, supporting strong collaborative partnerships with businesses and other organizations, and fostering business expansion and new business development.

Find a timber buyer logger, contractor, processor, or maker. Timber buyers are businesses and individuals who have an interest in purchasing and harvesting standing timber from landowners. Loggers and contractors can assist with forest and other vegetation management tasks - forest stand improvement, hazardous fuels removal, etc. Primary wood processors are businesses that process logs, bolts, or other tree sections directly into lumber, veneer, posts, fuelwood, wood chips, or other primary wood products. Makers take the primary wood products and make value added products like furniture. Map and list are here.
