September 1-7, 2025 Summary

Temperature 

Temperatures in the eastern portion of the region were below normal while the most western portion was above normal. The highest temperatures were 6°F to 9°F above normal in southwestern Wyoming. The lowest temperatures were 12°F to 15°F below normal in eastern North Dakota. 

Temperatures in western Wyoming reached 6°F to 9°F above normal. The hottest temperature was 89°F at Grand Junction, Colorado, which is 2°F above normal for the area. The lowest temperatures were 12°F to 15°F below normal in eastern North Dakota, a small area in central South Dakota, and a small area in southcentral Kansas. 

Eastern North Dakota, central and southwestern South Dakota, central and northeastern Nebraska, and western Kansas reached temperatures greater than 10°F below normal. The coldest temperature was 35°F at Laramie, Wyoming, which is 4°F below normal for the area.  The highest temperatures were 6°F to 8°F above normal in southwestern Wyoming.

Precipitation 

Precipitation amounts varied in the region, ranging from 2 percent of normal in most of Wyoming, northern and southwestern Colorado, northern Kansas, western and central Nebraska, western and southern South Dakota, and southern and western North Dakota, to 400 percent of normal in western Colorado, southeastern Nebraska, and southwestern South Dakota. Friend, Nebraska received 5.7 inches of precipitation; most of it fell on the 1st. Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) conditions decreased from 44 percent to 42 percent. In the region, Colorado experienced the highest decrease in D0 conditions by 5 percent.
