Global Sports, Media, and Entertainment

JOMC 391.P01 | 3 credit hours

In an increasingly globalized world, sports media is evolving rapidly. Major American sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS are striving to capture international audiences, while international leagues, especially in soccer, are making significant inroads into the U.S. market. This course, "Global Sports, Media, and Entertainment," explores the relationships between media and sports businesses, examining how global sports media targets the American market and how U.S. media expands internationally.

Students will study strategies of global sports leagues and American sports leagues, investigating the symbiotic relationships between media companies and sports organizations. A key highlight is hands-on experience in Spain, working with La Liga soccer team media professionals, including sports broadcasters, journalists, and ADPR experts, to understand media production and consumption in Spain.

This course offers a unique opportunity to gain practical insights and broaden understanding of the interconnected world of sports media and entertainment, equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in this dynamic industry.
