In 2016, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications was reaccredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, continuing the uninterrupted era of full accreditation that began in 1954. The four-person team of academics and professionals who visited the college in February 2017 said the college has “an outstanding program with one of the most professionally-oriented faculties in the nation.” The team also noted:

  • A faculty that has an open-door policy and is committed to student success.
  • Individual faculty who take full advantage of the freedom to innovate for the benefit of students and the professions.
  • A comfortable and well-equipped facility with recently upgraded common collaborative spaces.
  • Centers of innovation and experimentation, such as the drone lab and visual communications hub.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln journalism program is the only accredited journalism program in Nebraska.
