Alisa Smith is the director of advising for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Since joining UNL in July 2023, she has led a dedicated team of advisors committed to helping CoJMC students stay on track for graduation.

Alisa has an extensive background in higher education, with over two decades of experience. Before her current role, she served as the dean of student success at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. Her career at Lourdes spanned over 22 years, during which she also held positions as the director of retention and student success and the director of ARCHES (Academic Readiness through Coaching Habits for Excellence and Success). In these roles, she focused on maximizing students' academic success through comprehensive support and development programs.

Alisa earned her bachelor of science in medical technology from Bowling Green State University and her master of education from Lourdes University. Her commitment to student success is evident in her advice to students: "Get involved. Make connections with faculty and staff. Ask questions and use the many resources available to you. College is your time to learn more about the world and to discover who you are as an individual. Embrace your UNL experience and take advantage of the many opportunities available to you!"

Outside of her professional life, Alisa enjoys reading, baking, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She is particularly fond of sharing stories and pictures of her beautiful grandchildren—just ask her!
