The Lynn and Dana Roper Sports Writing Competition, established in 2001 by distinguished alumni of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, celebrates the art of sports journalism and its impact on communities. This annual competition, held by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, provides a vital platform for aspiring sports journalists to showcase their talent and passion. The Dana and Lynn Roper Sports Writing Competition tests your ability to produce clear, concise, accurate and compelling stories about sports.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

To Enter

Submit two published sports stories, in print or online (no blogs) and a resume. 

About the prize

The first-place winner will receive a $2,500 cash award, second place $2,000, third place $1,500 and fourth place $1,000.
