This is a brand-new virtual reality program coming from Nebraska, Alaska, and Hawai’i Extension. Throughout the week you will discover where your food comes from, investigate a variety of techniques on how to grow food, and explore how technology is being used to improve agriculture across these three states. While we would love to take you to these states firsthand to experience the rich culture, you will have settle for the next best thing, virtual reality tours! By the end of the week, you will also be able to create your own virtual reality tour using VG googles, 360 cameras, and other video making tools. Join us as we discover the impacts of technology on the agricultural world!

Animation
A truly playful way to learn animation from LA-based animators! In this animation camp, students will gain a deep understanding of how to control movement at the frame-by-frame level. Students will walk through the principles of animation using a wide variety of animation techniques including stop-motion as well as basic digital processes. We will also watch a variety of animated films, both historical and contemporary, and talk about how they were made. Taught in collaboration with the Calibraska Arts Initiative by LA Based animators and animation students from Los Angeles, CA. Classes will be held at the new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. No animation or drawing experience necessary, but a spirit of exploration is required! Past students are always welcome to join us again!

Discover Fashion: Clothing Design, Sustainability, & the Future of Textiles
Are you interested in the world of apparel and fashion? Are you curious how clothing is made, or all the steps that go into getting a garment to stores? Do you care about the environment and making your clothing more sustainable? During this camp, students will be introduced to the textile industry, and learn how a piece of clothing goes from concept to closet. They will learn principles of fashion design, merchandising, entrepreneurship, clothing culture and history, and discover careers in all of these areas. Students will meet faculty, students, and professionals in the fashion world and explore a range of currently utilized technologies. Ultimately, students will gain awareness about the current state of the fashion industry and sustainable practices. The camp is taught by University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design. Classes will be held in the Mary Mitchell Fashion Studio and all equipment and materials will be provided. No sewing skills or design experience is necessary. Students of any skill level are welcome and will be able to fully participate in all camp activities.

Discover Cryptography - AGAM
Have you ever wondered when you will use math in the real world? Have you ever wondered how credit card information is kept secure when shopping online? Is there a connection between those questions? There is! In this program, we will dive into the mathematics behind RSA, an encryption scheme commonly used to secure online transactions, and more. We will learn how to use math to send and decipher secret messages, hear from prestigious speakers in a variety of mathematical careers, and have tons of fun in the process!
This camp is for students entering grades 10-12. Candidates must have completed high school geometry. Special consideration is given to those entering their sophomore or junior year in the fall who have not yet taken Calculus. All are encouraged to apply, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM.

Physics of Earth
Have you ever wondered why continents move and oceans evolve? Are you curious about geological hazards such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions? Do you want to know how the Earth works? Come spend a week in this interactive Physics of Earth camp! We will learn about Earth’s layers and their role in planetary tectonics. We will discuss why the continents rift apart and break up, how new oceans form, and why lithospheric plates collide with each other. By outlining continents and mapping features of the ocean floor, we will develop our own tectonic reconstruction to move the continents through space and time! The camp will be led by faculty from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Students will explore basic concepts of plate tectonics, interpret geological and geophysical maps, and even collect their own geophysical data during a field trip, which will let them investigate different rocks and get a hands-on experience with various geophysical instruments. The ultimate camp’s goals are to trigger curiosity in geoscience and to provoke critical thinking about Earth systems and their relationship with geological hazards.

Discover Unicameral Youth Legislature
Do you want to learn what it’s like to serve as a state senator? The Unicameral Youth Legislature is a legislative simulation for current high school students who take on the role of lawmakers. Student senators sponsor bills, conduct committee hearings, debate legislation and discover the unique process of the nation’s only unicameral. The Clerk of the Nebraska Legislature, through the Unicameral Information Office, conducts the Unicameral Youth Legislature simulation and students learn directly from current state senators and staff.

Discover Weather & Climate Science
Come and find out how scientists observe and forecast the weather as well as monitor the changing climate. During the week, campers will use instruments to make their own weather observations; learn how to forecast the weather; visit with National Weather Service forecasters; learn about the local weather and climate of Nebraska from tornadoes to blizzards; and, learn about storm preparedness. We will conduct experiments throughout the week inside the classroom as well as outdoors to demonstrate basic weather and climate processes. We will also explore weather and storm photography. Participants will get to meet actual scientists and learn more about weather and climate related careers. Spend the week with other students who enjoy weather and science just like you! Hosted and taught by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department, Geography Program, College of Arts and Sciences, and Applied Climate Science, School of Natural Resources.
