Holt County 4-H Council Meeting Minutes 
Date: April 10, 2024 at 7:00pm 

Council Members present: Gina Pospichal, Trevor Gotschall, Kristi Peterson, Amber Shane, Megan Ramm, Miya Carey, Clair Krysl, and Tara Callison  

Extension Staff Members Present: Debra Walnofer 

Meeting was called to order at 7:26 p.m. by President Gina Pospichal. 

Motion to approve minutes of the January 25, 2024 meeting without corrections made by Miya Carey and seconded by Tara Callison. All ayes, motion carried.   

Treasurer’s Report: Debra Walnofer presented the Profit & Loss Detail for January 1 through April 10, 2024. 

Committee Reports 

Awards Committee: Awards committee reported donations are coming in and awards need to be ordered. 

Round Robin/Skill-a-thon Committee: No report. 

Horse Committee: No report. 

Unfinished/Old Business 

Senior Scholarship Application: Senior Scholarship applications were due by February 1st. Present members voted on the submitted Senior Scholarships. Senior Scholarships will go to Miya Carey and Claire Woeppel.  

4-H Online Enrollment: 4-H members that enrolled by April 1st were included in a drawing for the incentive prizes. $25 in Shamrock Bucks, one winner in each age group. Plus, one overall winner from all age divisions is a pair of bog boots. The prize winners are as follows:
     Junior: Matthias Harshbarger; 
     Intermediate: Jacob Kohle
     Senior: Austin Pinkerman
     Overall: Jett Kohle 

New Business 

Budget:  Debra Walnofer presented the proposed budget for 2024. Trevor Gotschall motioned to approve the budget, seconded by Miya Carey. All ayes, motion carried.  

Fair Schedule: Debra went over a few changes to the fair schedule (see attached) 

Fair Book Changes: Debra went over a few changes in the fair book (see attached) 

 

Next Meeting Date: May, TBD. Debra Walnofer will send out a Doodle Poll. 

Motion to adjourn meeting at 8:05 p.m. made by Amber Shane, seconded by Tara Callison. All ayes, motion carried.

9:00am - 4-H Shooting Events - .22 Rifle, Trap, Smallbore Pistol, and Muzzleloading

Sunday, August 4
8:00am - Check-in
9:00am-4:30pm - 4-H Shooting Events - .BB Gun, Air Rifle & Air Pistol (in the show barn), and Archery

Monday, August 5
8:00am - Check-in for Cats, Pocket Pets & Small Animals
8:30am - CLOVER KID Cat Project followed by 4-H Cat Show
               CLOVER KID Small Animal Project followed by 4-H Small Animal Show
9:00am - Check-in for Dogs (Starting with Agility at the .22 shooting sports range)

3:00pm - All animal exhibits to be in place, except Stocker Feeder Calves, Jr. Breeding Heifers, Producing Dairy Cows and Producing Dairy Goats (only producing dairy cows and goats for human consumption come Saturday morning)
4:00pm (approximately) - Livestock Judging and Skill-a-thon Contest immediately following Sheep Show in Show Barn
6:00pm - Deadline for signing up for Bonus Auction

8:30am - Producing Dairy Cows and Dairy Goats (only producing dairy cows and goats for human consumption. All other dairy goats are to be in place on Thursday by 3:00pm) Need to check in with superintendent at the Show Barn. 
8:30am - CLOVER KID Dairy Goat Project, 4-H Bottle Dairy Goats, and Dairy Goat Show
9:00am - Champion and Reserve Champion in all Breed Classes of Stocker Feeder Calves and Junior Breeding Heifers in Place
9:00am - CLOVER KID Rabbit Project followed by 4-H Rabbit Show (by Poultry/Rabbit Building)
               CLOVER KID Poultry Project followed by 4-H Poultry and Waterfowl Show (by Poultry/Rabbit Building)
10:00am - Dairy Show – ONLY Producing Dairy Cows and Goats (see above) released following Dairy Show

Visual Arts - Instead of Sketchbook Crossroads and Portfolio Pathways the classes are divided as Visual Art Mediums and Visual Art Themes  

Home Environment - Division will now be called the Home Design and Restoration  

SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) will now be STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Division 

Animals Changes  - Must use NEW DNA envelopes this year. 


County Fair 

Cattle classes will go back to what was listed in 2022 fair book as well as having the All Other Breeds (AOB) class.  

100 - Angus 101 - Charolais 102 - Chianina 103 - Crossbred 
104 - Gelbvieh 105 - Hereford 106 - Limousin 107 - Maine-Anjou 
108 - Red Angus 109 - Saler 110 - Shorthorn  111 - Simmental 

112 - All Other Breeds (AOB) 

 

NEW: ANIMAL MISTREATMENT/ABUSE - The use of showing and/or handling practices that may be considered objectionable or abusive are not acceptable. If a fair board member, any superintendents, or extension agent sees any animal abused or mistreated the person will be pulled from the show and disqualified from the remainder of any 4-H/FFA events/shows. That person will also be disqualified from participating in the bonus auction. If the abuse happens after the bonus auction the auction premium will be pulled along with all the ribbon premiums.    

NEW: NECK TIES ON CATTLE: The Fair board highly recommends when cattle are in their stalls that neck ties should be used with their halters to keep animals in their stall as a extra precaution.  

RELEASE TIME: Saturday at 5:00p.m. and if not followed all ribbon premium will be pulled.  

Camper Registrations for the 2024 Holt County Fair is $100.
